Unpopular opinion: Plenty of substitutes. Bourbon, Irish Whisky, etc.

I’m more worried about what happens when Trump discovers that Tequila comes from Mexico. Those bottles are phallic and probably want to rape our women.

25% on a few $100 bottles ain’t nothing to sneeze at. 2 weeks to do some research and make some potential long term choices isn’t very long. I’d be in a bit of panic myself.

Also includes single malts from N. Ireland, so Bushmills as well.

Also Irish cheeses and dairy (Kerry Gold, etc) , which happens to lump in Baileys Irish Cream (and other brands).

Not good.

Irish Single malts from the North(UK) also included, aka Bushmills.

Plenty of other non-tariff   options, but not really substitutes.

I was just in Edinburgh, as well as the D ublin duty free in the last two weeks. I would have increased my purchases had I known this was coming.

Glad I got what I did.  25% not the end of the world, but damn.

Jameson is made in Cork, in the Republic of Ireland, so no extra tariff (yet).

Liqueurs and cordials from the Republic were hit though.

They let me do Tariffs, without any subpoenas or investigations or anything. I do the best Tariffs, they’re always saying, people are saying “you do the best.....tariffs” and so I do. We are doing tariffs and its goina be great and everyone is going to love them.

Also, I don’t think Jameson makes a pure single malt anyway. Though the tariff says “Single malt and straight”

Straight might loop in anything old/good.

Arran is on my radar . Where I am the 18 is by far the cheapest 18 you can buy and has great reviews . Some weeks ago I picked up the Machrie Moor Cask Strength. Had a taste but not enough to form an opinion yet.

I tasted some Arran while over there, though it was later in the night after a few other ‘tastings’ but still made an impression . The 14yo was 35 pounds at the Airport (~$44 ?) so I said ‘yes, yes, please’.

How about ALL cheeses, unfortunately. ‘Cept ‘murican cheese on hamberders.

P retty much all cheese from these countries:

Section 8 – Products of Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands , Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, or the United Kingdom described below are subject to additional import duties of 25 percent ad valorem:

So Jameson and Redbreast remain untouched since they’re from the Republic of Ireland, not the occupied northern counties , right?

Kinja'd!!! Thomas Donohue > RPM esq.
10/04/2019 at 19:25

Kinja'd!!!0

Both are made in Cork, so the they are unaffected as of now.  A s far as I know Jameson doesn’t make any single malts (though the tariff says ‘ single malt and straight’ - whatever that means). Redbreast is a Single Pot Still, so it’s not really a Single Malt either.

(Northern Ireland is part of the UK, so it’s not ‘occupied’ though many use that term, along with a few others)

Kinja'd!!! RPM esq. > Thomas Donohue

T hat’s an interesting distinction (as between single malt and single pot still), since the process is different but th e appeal to the consumer is somewhat similar (as opposed to blends) —and I have no idea what trade regulations make of relatively subtle distinctions like that. Thankfully hypothetical for now.

As to politics and geography, I know what I said, albeit at least half joking.
